June “Sunrise” Community Camino

Saturday, June 13, 2026

6:00am – 8:00am

Join us as we begin our summertime Sunrise Community Caminos, early morning pilgrimages to welcome the day before the Texas heat settles in. You can start with prayer and reflection at Mission Concepción, then we will set out along the San Antonio River as the first light of morning begins to rise across the sky. The Camino comes alive in a different way at sunrise—the quiet sound of the river, birds greeting the day, cool morning air, and the peaceful beauty of God’s creation coming to light around us. Walking together in community toward San Fernando Cathedral, this first of three spiritual walks offers a chance to slow down, reflect, and begin the day with purpose, peace, and gratitude.

  • Check begins at 6:00 am at the Padre Margil Pilgrimage Center, 263 Felisa Street, San Antonio, TX 78210.
  • Walk begins at 6:30 am.

Important

The San Antonio summers can be brutally hot. Parts of the trail have no shade and temperatures are often over 100 degrees.

  • Begin your walk early. Temperatures can reach 100 degrees by noon.
  • Know your limits. Prepare for sun and heat. Wear sunscreen, hats, insect repellent and appropriate clothing and hiking shoes. Bring a first aid kit.
  • Heatstroke can kill. Wear appropriate clothing so you can adjust to temperature changes.
  • Drink plenty of water. Your body loses fluid quickly when you are on the trail. Bring a quart of water per hour of activity. Eat a salty snack to maintain energy and avoid illness.
