Frequently Asked Questions

Do you still have questions about El Camino de San Antonio Missions?  Let us help you find the answers you are looking for.

Where do you start?

The El Camino trail can be experienced North to South or South to North. Where you decide to start is up to you.  First, you have to determine how you will be taking this pilgrimage.  You can walk the entire El Camino trail, ride your bike, or drive your vehicle.  You do not have to complete the journey in one day, take the time you need to make this pilgrimage meaningful to you.

When is the best time to go on a pilgrimage?

The season for pilgrimage is usually between late September through the end of May. You can choose a date within this period considering the weather most suitable for you.  Texas summers can get can extremely hot.  If the summer months are the only time you can do your pilgrimage, consider beginning as soon as the sun rises.

What should I pack?

Just like any other journey, there are various items we suggest you pack for your pilgrimage.  The following are some items to pack for this journey:

  • Reusable water bottle:  Each mission has refillable water stations you can use to refill your water bottles.
  • Comfortable walking shoes: Even if you decide to drive or bike from mission to mission, the grounds can be uneven.
  • Clothes: You should choose clothes that are comfortable to you and appropriate to the time of the year you plan to journey in.
  • Other items to consider: hat/cap, sunscreen, rain/waterproof gear, snacks and of course money to visit the gift shop.
