Double Solar Illumination

Save the Date – The Annual Double Solar Illumination on Thursday August 15th!

This Summer, you’re invited to experience the celestial spectacle of the double solar illumination at Mission Concepción! Join us on August 15th as we witness the annual alignment where setting sunlight passes through two windows of the church in a breathtaking display, aligning on the altar. This event marks the Feast of the Assumption, a Marian feast day that Catholics around the world celebrate. Don’t miss this fusion of history, theology, and astronomy, a quintessential San Antonio tradition!

There will be a special presentation at 6:00pm by Fr. Dennis Schafer, OFM, as well as Mass directly following the Illumination. The doors to the church will be closed at 6:30pm for a moment of silence. This event is free and open to the public. The Padre Margil Pilgrimage Center will have extended hours till 8:30pm for all who wish to visit.

Schedule of Events

• 6:00pm: Special presentation by Fr. Dennis Schafer, OFM
• 6:30pm: Doors close for moment of silence
• 6:45pm: Mass Begins
