July Sunrise Community Camino

6:00am – 8:00am

Let’s walk together again! Join us on Saturday, July 11, as we walk along the San Antonio River. This month we are walking between Mission Concepción and Mission San José. As you celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States, walk in appreciation for the women and men who serve our country, remember the rich heritage of our missions, woven into the fabric of our country, and rejoice in the beauty of the natural world that surrounds us. Along our journey of reflection, prayer, and celebration, we are reminded that faith calls us not only to appreciate God’s blessings but also to share them with others. In that spirit, we invite each pilgrim to bring a canned good to support a local food pantry, extending Christ’s love and care to our neighbors in need. Come walk with us!

Important

The San Antonio summers can be brutally hot. Parts of the trail have no shade and temperatures are often over 100 degrees.

  • Begin your walk early. Temperatures can reach 100 degrees by noon.
  • Know your limits. Prepare for sun and heat. Wear sunscreen, hats, insect repellent and appropriate clothing and hiking shoes. Bring a first aid kit.
  • Heatstroke can kill. Wear appropriate clothing so you can adjust to temperature changes.
  • Drink plenty of water. Your body loses fluid quickly when you are on the trail. Bring a quart of water per hour of activity. Eat a salty snack to maintain energy and avoid illness.
