March Community Camino “A Walk With St. Francis”

March 14, 2026

8:00am – 11:00am

Walking in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, we will make our way in simplicity, peace, and trust in God’s providence. This month, we begin at Mission Concepcion, gathering at the Padre Margil Pilgrimage Center. As we walk along the banks of the San Antonio River, making our way to San Fernando Cathedral, we will pause twice to remember the humility and joy that marked St. Francis’ path. In a world often filled with noise and chaos, this Camino becomes a sacred space of stillness, prayer, and renewal.

  • Check in at 8 am at the Padre Margil Pilgrimage Center, located behind Mission Concepcion, 807 Mission Rd, San Antonio, TX 78210.
  • Please park in the Mission Concepcion parking lot. Parking is free.
  • This will be a one way walk to San Fernando Cathedral. Pilgrims can choose to walk back, take Via bus route #42, or secure a rideshare.
  • Total walking time is about 1 hour, and the guided tour will last 20 minutes at each Mission.
  • Please bring a refillable water bottle and wear comfortable clothes.
  • Clean bathrooms, coffee shop, gift store, and water bottle fill stations are located at the Pilgrimage Center.

Important

The San Antonio summers can be brutally hot. Parts of the trail have no shade and temperatures are often over 100 degrees.

  • Begin your walk early. Temperatures can reach 100 degrees by noon.
  • Know your limits. Prepare for sun and heat. Wear sunscreen, hats, insect repellent and appropriate clothing and hiking shoes. Bring a first aid kit.
  • Heatstroke can kill. Wear appropriate clothing so you can adjust to temperature changes.
  • Drink plenty of water. Your body loses fluid quickly when you are on the trail. Bring a quart of water per hour of activity. Eat a salty snack to maintain energy and avoid illness.
